So often we as Christians are worried about what we do or how we act. We think we need to perform in a certain manner, say things in a certain manner. Yet, it is not our performance but our heart that is important to God. God knows that we can’t be “good” enough. Adam and Eve already blew that one! Why else would He have to send Jesus?
We get so caught up in our outward appearance, what we watch, what we hear, what we’re involved in on the outside that we loose contact with the condition of our heart.
As I looked up scripture for this I found 743 scriptures in the bible that had to do with a man’s heart, either the condition of it, or the depth of it. Our hearts and the place of our hearts, the condition of our hearts, the real reason we think, say, do, or react to something, that’s where the real person is.
We can look all the way back to the first book of the bible and see where our hearts have gotten us into trouble.
Genesis 6:5
The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

Psalm 62:4
With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse
We must constantly come before God and ask the question - “Is there anything in my heart that is displeasing to You? Is there anything that will influence my relationship with You?”
God’s expectation is not a perfect performance, but a perfect heart - a heart that quickly recognizes anything that offends. God wants us with a perfect heart – people that come to God in repentance and say “Lord forgive me, and help me to live right for You”
Prov 4:23 says
“Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it will flow the issues of life”.
Prov 4:23 says
“Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it will flow the issues of life”.
To guard your heart is to constantly keep watch over your heart to prevent anything that will cause hardness of heart or wrong motive. (What God exposed to me about the motives in my heart!)
We need to regularly ask ourselves, “What are my motives?”
1. Do we do things to look good in the eyes of man?
2. Do we do things for our own gain and pleasure?
3. Do we do things to please God and those we love?
To be a person with a right heart means we constantly need to check our attitude as we go through situations, and make sure we react in a correct manner.
Luke 21:34
"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.
"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.
There may be times where we have to say that the problem lies….. with us. If you think that this isn’t an option think again.
Proverbs 20:9
Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"?
Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"?
Be prepared to face the truth for what it is, to acknowledge it before others, and then come to an understanding on how to change things.
Proverbs 16:21
The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.

Ask God to help you to die daily to the things in your life that will effect your heart and bring you into reproach with those around you and with God. Can you take the "truth about your heat?"
Ephesians 6:6
Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
